Our History

ABC San Diego Becomes an Official Chapter

Associated Builders and Contractors, San Diego (ABCSD) was granted chapter status by ABC’s national board of directors on September 13, 1976, marking the official beginning of the San Diego Chapter.

Apprenticeship Training Program is Established

ABCSD created its Training Trust in 1986. One year later, the chapter received state recognition for its first apprenticeship training program that began with a group of 20 electrical apprentices in a small 30th Street shop and later expanded into additional trades.

Our First Facility

After sharing space with San Diego Mesa College, the chapter opened its first dedicated training facility in Kearny Mesa, becoming one of the first in the region to offer in-house training.

A State-of-the-Art Home in Poway

In 2004, the chapter moved to its current home in Poway, with 16 classrooms, a computer lab, online training capability and an 11,000-square-foot hands-on lab.

Stronger Than Ever at 50

In 2026, ABCSD celebrated its 50th year as an organization and the chapter has never been stronger. Today, it operates with a staff of 40+, has enrolled a record number of apprentices and trainees, and serves more members than ever before.
