This committee assesses and identifies candidates for public office and ballot initiatives which will further advance our merit shop apprentice programs, and support fair and open competition in the construction industry. The committee informs our members on critical political issues impacting their freedom to do work as merit shop contractors.

The Membership Committee supports the ABCSD strategic goal to continuously grow and deliver value to a diverse and committed membership. It works to improve business opportunities for merit shop contractors by generating leads for potential new members, facilitating connections, and partnering with ABCSD to provide meaningful events throughout the year dedicated to growing membership. This Committee is responsible for developing innovative new programs and sponsorship outreach for these events.

The Safety Committee supports the ABC strategic goal to establish ABC’s members as the world-class standard for health, safety and working environment in the construction industry. The mission of the Safety Committee is to provide leadership and direction to ABCSD members on these vital issues. The Committee’s goals are to save, protect and enhance the lives of workers and the community; to bring about a renewed commitment to safety and health in the construction industry; and to increase the productivity and competitiveness of ABCSD member companies. Speakers and topics vary month-to-month, covering timely and relevant legislation, CAL/FED OSHA regulations, and reporting issues faced by ABCSD member companies in their day-to-day operations.

The Technology Committee is designed to recognize and understand ABCSD’s member needs for technology solutions so that it can recommend the best resources possible to support the innovative needs of ABCSD members. This committee will provide education and information resources on technology.
Through the committees’ educational strategies of understanding member needs, collaborating with technology providers, and providing resources to members, it will help our members use construction technology to be safer, win work, and be more profitable. The committee supports our members and the construction industry at large.

The mission of the Workforce Development Committee is to establish ABC San Diego as the leading resource for industry training and workforce development needs. Committee members identify specialized classes and programs, and determine direction for outreach and training initiatives to build support for ongoing professional success of the construction workforce.

The Young Professionals program aims to shape the future of our industry by supporting the growth of emerging construction professionals employed by ABC member companies. The program creates opportunities for young leaders to build relationships, expand their skills, and advance their careers, while continuing to promote open competition and the merit shop philosophy. The Young Professionals Executive Committee leads this group by planning innovative programs to enhance members’ leadership skills, industry knowledge, professional development, and community involvement.

Unilateral Apprenticeship Committees (UAC)
The Unilateral Apprenticeship Committees meet monthly. The Committees are responsible for overseeing the administration and enforcement of the apprenticeship program standards. The ABC apprenticeship programs cannot maintain their state approval without active and involved training committee members to oversee the business of the programs. With the continued dedication from our UAC members, ABC apprenticeship training programs will continue to provide quality training and produce the skilled workers of tomorrow.
