Emily Hartnett

HR & Contract Administrative Manager, Laser Electric, Inc.

Emily remembers fondly growing up in a home, working alongside her dad and older brothers on home projects.  She graduated with her AA in Computer Graphics/Multimedia in 2001 and continued her education in Structural Engineering at Palomar College and San Diego State University.  Eventually, her path led her to the trades, working for TI General Contractors and HVAC Contractors and moving into estimating low voltage controls for over five years.  Through these experiences, Emily discovered she truly enjoyed the construction trade.

Emily’s career path has had its challenges. There are a growing number of women in the construction trade.  As she developed her career, few at the estimating and project management levels understood their field.  Emily found that proving herself and continuing to grow was challenging. However, it was well worth it as she had pushed through, proving her knowledge and worth.

Emily’s advice “If you truly enjoy construction and want to pursue a career in this industry, take the leap and learn all you can to continue growing.  Do not let constructive criticism hold you back; learn from it and embrace it.”
