Alyssa had been employed in customer service for three years and was wanting a change in her career. She always was interested in electrical and enjoyed physical work, enjoys movement, new things, always different. She was excited to start job learning and working in low voltage.
Alyssa is a first-year apprentice with ABCSD and is diligently working to reach her goal to finish the program and become a journeyperson. Alyssa hopes to someday own her own business. For now, she is focusing on gaining experience and sharpening her skills. Her biggest challenge so far is learning to trust herself and to ask questions. Alyssa knows it is better to ask and learn then to guess and make costly mistakes. She enjoys working hard, is excited to gain experience, and to never stop learning. Her
Alyssa’s advice to women who are interested in the trades, “Go for it! It is physically demanding but not impossible.” She shared that while working on the jobsites she has appreciated the many individuals who are “willing to teach and help if you are willing to learn and be better.”
